WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY.... LET'S COPE TOGETHER
With today being World Mental Health Day, it is only fitting for all of us to go out and do something spontaneous. Fight the doodle bugs of depression by taking a trip (before gas gets to 2.50/gal). Not just any trip. A low cost trip. I get depressed when I spend too much. Anyhoo, how about a picnic on the mountain? Or how about a trip to your own island oasis?

HIIT... HIGH INTERVAL INTENSITY TRAINING
So I've been trying to keep up on my fitness reading and trying to find newer more innovative ways to work out and maximize the benefits. I hear this HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training works and it is great on time. So SHAPE, one of the top fitness magazines, there is a HIIT workout for you! Try it! There is also a great five page spread in the September edition of the magazine. Ciara's on the cover.
So, state fairs are awesome. There is so much fitness to a state fair if you are mindful. There are always healthier options so I made a point to see whether I could eat appropriately at a state fair. Um... I could, but I chose not to. But THERE ARE HEALTHIER OPTIONS.
Take for instance, turkey legs. Poultry is a lot healthier than those bacon and pork sundaes or deep fried oreos. And corn on the cob is much healthier that a corndog.

MENTAL HEALTH IS CRUCIAL.....
Remember when I told you that mental and spiritual health is apart of health? Well, One of the books I'm reading is a selection from Dr. Deepak Chopra. One term, he uses is Ojas, Enlivening Intelligence. He says when this is flowing through your body, everything works
in harmony. One thing I do to meditate and TRY and think happy thoughts is to find a place where natural, peaceful sounds abide. Where tranquility and harmony resides. Every where I travel, I try and find a spot where I know the natural rhythm of the earth will calm me and I will lose myself

Grow YOUR OWN.....ITS HEALTHIER!!!
One thing I learned is that some foods can be a double or triple advantage to your health. Lots of foods pack a powerful punch. MAXIMIZE your health potential by loading your plate filled with healthy foods rich in vitamins like Vitamin A.
Fill your plate with the right foods. You can save yourself lots of money by growing your own vegetables. I grew up on things like greens, corn, sweet potatoes, eggplant and mirlitons. My father was an outdoorsman and a gardener. He was responsible for growing our foods. Now, I have the responsibility of doing this myself. It is HELL! I am a nomad. I move around from place to place and don't have the patience to wait for veggies to grow. But for once, I found the time to sit still and wait. AND BOY AM I GLAD. Growing foods that pack nutritional value is beneficial to your pocket and your health. Take a look at the video I posted my small experiment with Vitamin A.
The crazy thing about me is that I never count calories like all of us have been trained to do. If that works for you, then go ahead. It slows me down and by the time I finish counting, I can't even enjoy my food.
That Vitamin A power meal with greens, sweet potatoes and a side of fish or lean cut of beef. Take for instance the picture below. Meals like these support skin rejuvenation and make your skin glow abundantly.

GET UP AND GET OUT....... GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR WORKOUT
Okay so you didn't stick to your New Year's resolutions and weren't prepared for the Summer's Swimwear season. That's okay you'll be Instagram ready next season. One thing people don't realize is that a full body workout is the most beneficial. But what about the lazy people like me? What do we need to do get things going?
First, pick or design a workout for your personality and your target areas. Some choose Zumba. For me everything is a target area but when it comes to my personality, I choose Taebo, Celebrity Fit Sculpt. I always thought of myself as a Celebrity or a media personality. Maybe that's why I have so much opposition.
Before you start any workout, remember to consult your physician.
Fall is here and what better way to eat, than to devour seasonal favorites like pumpkin and squash.
As a creole woman, I find everything taste better with freshly chopped seasonings. And in the South, we like to use what is commonly referred to as the "Holy Trinity." It's just onions, bell peppers and celery. Here's my personal recipe to kick off the season. It's a great Sunday meal with some hot rice and your choice of meat or lack thereof.
Here are your ingredients:
Olive oil
Zatarain's liquid onion and garlic seafood boil
1 medium onion
turkey sausage or shrimp
1 medium bell pepper
3 yellow or white squash
rosemary
oregano
black pepper
savory
basil
Tony Cachere's seasoning

First, heat oil or butter
Second add one medium onion diced and a quarter of a chopped
bell pepper
Then, Peel squash and Chop squash into small cubes or
slices. Add to pot.
Do not add water, it will make its own.
Add spices, rosemary, Tony Cacheres, a few dashes of black
pepper, dash of black pepper, dash of oregano, dash of savory, dash of basil.
Let pot cook for a little while.
For a creole taste, i used a capful of Zatarain's liquid
onion and garlic seafood boil. Stir.
While this is cooking, in a separate pan add oil, and
sausage of your choosing. (i chose turkey sausage) .
After the squash has cooked for some time and its seems
tender add sausage to squash pot. Then, add the shrimp to the same pot as
sausage let the shrimp cook in seasoned oil. When squash has been cooking for a
while and tender enough to eat then dump shrimp to the pot let cook for about
15 minutes. Cook some rice and laisse les bon temps roule!
